Aug 31 – Sep 1 – “More Than Social Manners” – Weekend Worship Services

When it comes to social gatherings, manners and social graces become very important, especially in formal gatherings like weddings and large celebrations.  Many people have offered advice in newspaper columns or books on how to act accordingly when one finds themselves at a formal gathering.

Jesus talks about how people should seek to find a place to sit at such a gathering.  Back in his day, people chose where they sat, and the closer a person sat near the guest of honor, dictated one’s importance or prestige in the gathering socially.  Nowadays, we usually don’t have to deal with this issue, as we are normally assigned seats at formal functions.  But yet, we often hear how people lobby for who they want to sit next to at a function.  Feeling important, surrounding ourselves with successful people, and thinking highly of ourselves is very much still alive in our world today.

Country singer, Garth Brooks sang about having ‘friends in low places’, and it seems that Jesus is reminding us about staying low and humbling ourselves, not only at social functions, but also throughout our daily walk.  If we employ an attitude of humility, Jesus tells us that we will be rewarded in the Kingdom of God.  Listen-In or Watch, as Pastor Warren tells us more about life with Jesus beyond social graces.
