How big is your faith? Is it even measurable? Maybe you’ve gone through times when you’ve felt that you could use a boost in your faith. Perhaps realizing your own limits makes you cry out to the Lord like the apostles did saying, “Increase our faith!” Like the apostles, we also long for Jesus to pass along something to us to strengthen our faith, especially during times of temptation and trial. Jesus answered their request by showing them how to measure faith. Faith the size of a mustard seed is enough to uproot a mulberry tree and plant it into the sea. It would then obey you by continuing to grow. That’s the type of faith that Jesus passes onto us by His promises – something very special and powerful.
Do you remember the famous mustard commercial for Grey Poupon? “Please pass the Grey Poupon,” was the well-known phrase that has stuck into the minds of many people. Perhaps you have even said that at your own dinner table. Grey Poupon is a very fine Dijon mustard that adds just the right boost or zest to your food. Just a little is all it takes to perk up your meal. Maybe you feel that is all you need, just a little Grey Poupon for your faith. However, be careful in your request. While Grey Poupon is a very fine mustard that comes with a certain amount of class or prestige, there is nothing flashy or prestigious about a mustard seed. In fact, the seed is only about 1 to 2 mm in diameter. Very small, quite common, but yet very powerful. Stop by this weekend to see the power of something small and common, especially with regard to faith in Jesus.
