‘In the beginning, God created.’ God is the creator and sustainer of life. Death was not part of His Creation. Death came through sin as the Apostle Paul writes, “The wages of sin is death.” Death is not natural to God, or even us as His Created. Even though death occurs every day, we can never think it to be a natural thing. Experiencing the loss of someone close to you feels like your whole insides are being torn away. Loss through death hurts deeply, seemingly cutting down through the marrow of your soul. There is nothing natural about that. In our busy working society, we are only given a couple of days, at best, to deal with our loss. For many of us, we still have lingering feelings of loss that we try and squelch even years later. Sometimes we wonder why we still hurt.
The Apostle Paul went on to remind us of something that will bring healing to our heart and soul when he said, “But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This weekend we gather to remember those special people of faith in our lives, who have gone before us. Come and be comforted by your Savior who brings healing to the afflicted, and comfort to those who mourn.
