This weekend, Pastor Tom talks about some folks who know what it means to be really poor. We are not talking simply about seeing your retirement account shrink or an investment going bad. We are talking about struggling to make the payments on your second vehicle or even wondering how you’ll make the next rent or mortgage payment. We will talk about real poverty; not having a permanent home and traveling with everything you own. We will talk about people who have known hunger, labor, and imprisonment.
And yet, out of the depths of this level of poverty they asked — we could even say insisted — to be allowed to contribute to the needs of others. They could have argued that they needed the help. That they ought to have been the recipients, not the givers. But instead, they urgently begged for the privilege of sharing what little they had with others. And in fact, they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability.
This is the final message of Pastor Tom’s three part series, “In God We Trust.”
