This is a night filled with awe and mystery. The miracle of the incarnation of Jesus—God is taking upon Himself human flesh—has for centuries been the occasion of great celebration in the Christian Church. Although our celebration of God’s gift of His Son has become surrounded with much tradition and even sentimentality, we can hardly help but join our voices together with those of the angel host who split the night skies with their glorious hymn “Glory to God in the highest!” This is a fitting and proper response to what God did for us so long ago in the little town of Bethlehem.
