Aug 5/6 – Turtle Top Theology – Lutheran Weekend Worship

I’m beginning a series of messages today I’m calling “God and Dr. Seuss”. Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel) dedicated himself to writing simple, entertaining, and thoughtful poems that used basic words children would understand. Like you, I’ve read many Dr. Seuss books to my kids and grandkids. However, his stories do more than entertain our children, they teach us all some important lessons. In fact, lessons that Jesus also taught.
Today we begin with one of Dr. Seuss’s more famous poem, called “Yertle the Turtle”. It’s all about wanting to be great? And what’s wrong with that? Well, when I read this poem, I’m reminded of Jesus words “. . . he who is least among you all is the one who is great (Luke 9:46-50).” I call it Turtle Top Theology. Listen-In or Watch below.
