Apr 13/14 – The Difference a Few Days Makes – Lutheran Weekend Worship

Today’s service is full of contrasts. We recall Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, with its pomp and pageantry. Then we plunge into the Passion, which ends with Jesus’ burial. There is a unifying factor: On Sunday, the crowds hailed Jesus as the King of Israel, and on Friday He reigned from His cruel throne, the cross. There He destroyed death for the sake of His subjects. We offer thanksgiving for His royal, benevolent rule over us and all who bend the knee and call Jesus Lord. Listen-In or Watch below!

Apr 10 / Wed Lenten Worship – The Trial: A Place of God’s Will – Lutheran Weekend Worship

Our Lord knows how changeable our wills are and how vast are the forces that fight against us as His people; therefore, He teaches us to pray, “Thy will be done.”

As Luther explains in the Large Catechism, “Just as God’s name is holy in itself, and we still pray that it be holy among us, so also His kingdom comes of itself, without our prayer. Yet we still pray that it may come to us, that is, triumph among us and with us, so that we may be a part of those people among whom His name is hallowed and His kingdom prospers” (Part III, The Second Petition, p. 414).

This evening, we meditate upon the trial of Jesus, seeing in this place the trials of the world that fight against God’s will and yet also seeing the work of God, bringing salvation to the world and making the place of trial a place of His eternal will.

Apr 6/7 – Cornerstone vs. Stumbling Stone – Lutheran Weekend Worship

Jesus can be polarizing. He can be the Cornerstone of your life upon which whom you
build your life and faith upon. He can also be a Stumbling Stone upon which you trip over
in this life seeming to become a major impediment to get around, especially when you
are trying to build your life without Him or around Him.

Many people want to build their lives upon their own accomplishments, status, and
prestige. When confronted by Jesus, they can become resistant to him, much like the
Pharisees, who wanted to kill him. Jesus sends a warning to these kind of folks that if you
don’t have Him as your Cornerstone in life, then the weight of the rest of the stones on
the foundation of your life may crush you. The Good News is that when He is your
Cornerstone, the rest of your life will be built solidly upon Him.
